Child Care Infographic
Rather than a national child care strategy, Canada has a patchwork of regulated and unregulated spaces, widely ranging fees and long waiting lists. Families with higher incomes that live in urban areas are more likely to have access, but even then, finding an appropriate spot that meets the needs of the parents and children is often a matter of luck. This infographic for the Canadian Labour Congress details these challenges. In addition to facts and figures, the viewer follows the paths of five families from across the country in attempting to access care, and the hurdles that are placed in the way. In the end, only 1 in 5 families has access to high quality care. View high-res
Tens of thousands of posters were distributed to workplaces and the web version was circulated online. The hope is that the infographic will help make funding for child care a vote-determining issue in the next federal election.
